Redshift query cost1/21/2024 Since then, Amazon Redshift has added automation to inform 100% of SET DW, absorbed table maintenance into the service’s (and no longer the user’s) responsibility, and enhanced out-of-the-box performance with smarter default settings. In 2018, the SET DW “backronym” summarized the key considerations to drive performance (sort key, encoding, table maintenance, distribution, and workload management). Each driver has optional configurations to further tune it for higher or lower number of statements, with either fewer or greater row counts in the result set.Įase of use by automating all the common DBA tasks. The tenfold increase is a current soft limit, you can reach out to your account team to increase it.ĪWS now recommends the Amazon Redshift JDBC or ODBC driver for improved performance. In addition to the optimized Automatic WLM settings to maximize throughput, the concurrency scaling functionality in Amazon Redshift extends the throughput capability of the cluster to up to 10 times greater than what’s delivered with the original cluster. It’s recommended to focus on increasing throughput over concurrency, because throughput is the metric with much more direct impact on the cluster’s users. Examples are 300 queries a minute, or 1,500 SQL statements an hour. This is done to maximize throughput, a measure of how much work the Amazon Redshift cluster can do over a period of time. On production clusters across the fleet, we see the automated process assigning a much higher number of active statements for certain workloads, while a lower number for other types of use-cases. Query throughput is more important than query concurrency.Ĭonfiguring concurrency, like memory management, can be relegated to Amazon Redshift’s internal ML models through Automatic WLM with Query Priorities. We’re pleased to share the advances we’ve made since then, and want to highlight a few key points. This post refreshes the Top 10 post from early 2019. This post takes you through the most common performance-related opportunities when adopting Amazon Redshift and gives you concrete guidance on how to optimize each one. Amazon Redshift provides an open standard JDBC/ODBC driver interface, which allows you to connect your existing business intelligence (BI) tools and reuse existing analytics queries.Īmazon Redshift can run any type of data model, from a production transaction system third-normal-form model to star and snowflake schemas, data vault, or simple flat tables. Amazon Redshift is a fully managed, petabyte-scale, massively parallel data warehouse that offers simple operations and high performance. Best neutral colors1/20/2024 We’ve outlined a bunch of our top picks above, but we wholeheartedly recommend using those colors as a jumping-off point. Perhaps the most important aspect of any nail polish selection is the shade. What to Look For in OPI Nail Polish Color Trenna Seney is a celebrity nail artist based in Harlem, New York City.Galdina Jimenez is an Oceanside, California-based nail artist. We’ve also tapped two experts, who weighed in by sharing their top shades and go-to nail tips for how to wear these top-rated OPI polish favorites. These shades offer good coverage, suit a range of skin tones, and satisfy all your moods, whether you want a bold statement color or something more subtle. We’ve combed through OPI’s huge assortment of nail polishes and picked our favorites. In addition to being recognized for its broad range of shades that include more unexpected colors, OPI is beloved for its many cheeky and punny polish names. A classic salon fave is OPI, a brand that’s been on the beauty scene since 1981. Sometimes, it can be helpful to narrow things down by picking a brand first, then going from there. We’re not ashamed to admit that on some occasions, we’ve spent more than five minutes hemming and hawing before choosing a hue. If you do your own manicures, choosing the right shade is also important-and you want to make sure you go with a salon-quality brand, like OPI, for long lasting coverage, and a glossy, pro finish. There can only be one, yet it can feel near impossible to select a winner from so many shades. Those of us who have gotten professional manicures are very familiar with the following situation: You walk through the door of your nail salon, are told to pick a color, and then face that daunting wall of lacquers.

Subaru onyx 20201/20/2024 But honestly, the base engine is so good and provides enough motivating force that the only reason to spend money on the more powerful engine is if you live at elevations where turbocharging helps you get up hills and mountains - or if you plan on towing. The turbo four’s grunt is noticeable, providing immediate response and brisk acceleration with less input from the accelerator pedal. The old 3.6-liter flat-six-cylinder engine has been discontinued. The Outback’s optional powertrain (standard on Outback XT trims) is a turbocharged 2.4-liter flat-four that makes a healthy 260 hp and 277 pounds-feet of torque. If you’re looking for more power, Subaru has you covered. Admittedly, this isn’t something most Outback drivers are likely to do every day, but enough owners do use their cars off-road to make this a notable characteristic. It’s there that the accelerator response gets a little too sensitive, making it difficult to drive smoothly across broken terrain or open fields. My only quibble with the engine was during off-road excursions, when its low-speed X-Mode off-road mode was engaged. It’s quiet, too cruising along through the hushed redwood forests of Northern California, it was easygoing and almost silent. It never felt slow or ponderous, never felt like it was in the wrong “gear” (not that it has any traditional fixed gears), never struggled from a standing start or felt like it wasn’t ready to perform. The engine is perfectly matched to the transmission and temperament of the car. It’s mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission, and as with most Subarus, all-wheel drive is standard. The base engine is a 182-horsepower, 2.5-liter flat-four-cylinder making 176 pounds-feet of torque. That outstanding platform and suspension are matched by equally good powertrains. Not so in the Outback while the steering isn’t huge on feel or feedback, it does have firmness, heft, accuracy and a surprisingly quick steering ratio that makes the car feel nimble. Subaru’s Ascent three-row SUV is pretty good, but its bulk prevents it from being enjoyable to drive. The Outback’s body control is exceptional, with ride and handling that feels sophisticated in a way I haven’t experienced before in a Subaru product. Think Audi A6 or Volvo V90 wagon, not SUV competitors like the Chevrolet Blazer, Hyundai Santa Fe or Jeep Grand Cherokee. Put simply, the Outback drives like a premium luxury vehicle. Thanks to an all-new platform, torsional rigidity is up an almost unbelievable 70 percent, which gave engineers a steadfast foundation on which to build the suspension, steering and braking systems. 2020 Subaru Outback | photo by Aaron Bragman Punching Above Its Class But the magic of the new 2020 Outback isn’t in the way it looks, it’s in how it drives. And the hiking boot analogy really does work for the Outback, with a chunky plastic lower portion and a sleek, colorful upper one, just like what its customers tend to wear on their feet. The beltline remains low for a commanding view over the hood or to the sides. Selective use of high-strength steel keeps the pillars thin for excellent outward visibility. But fiercely loyal Outback customers don’t care - they like the way the Outback looks just fine the old one was still selling in record numbers even as the new one was just a few weeks away. The redesigned 2020 Outback barely looks different from the outgoing model, with just a few slightly updated, vaguely evolutionary design cues in its chunky, hiking-boot styling. (Per our ethics policy, pays for its own lodging and airfare at such automaker-sponsored events.) Looks the Same, Feels Completely Different I drove an all-new sixth-generation 2020 Outback in Northern California at a Subaru media event, and all I can say is this: If you’re a fan of the current Outback, wait till you get behind the wheel of this one - you’re going to absolutely love it. Two decades ago, when Subaru took its Legacy wagon and jacked it up, slapped on plastic cladding and gave it an outdoorsy name, nobody imagined the Subaru Outback would become the automaker’s most beloved, best-selling model. Versus the competition: It has some impressive SUV competitors, but when you factor in the Subaru’s value-leading pricing, it’s hard to find one that drives as well as the Outback, includes as much equipment and costs so little to own and operate. The verdict: The new Subaru Outback may not look terribly new, but it is - and it’s the best one Subaru has ever made.

Jack stack downtown1/20/2024 We look forward to visiting KC and the Jack Stack downtown restaurant again. We realized that Kansas City is a destination-city, not just a stopover on our drive from California through the Midwest. I don't remember the exact amount of the tab, but I had a large glass of wine, and the final bill seemed VERY reasonable for such a "classy" place. Jack Stack Barbecue - Overland Park, Overland Park: See 2,016 unbiased reviews of Jack Stack Barbecue - Overland Park, rated 4.5 of 5 on Tripadvisor and ranked 1 of 506 restaurants in Overland Park. So were the BBQ beans that accompanied the ribs. To stand out in the competitive KC barbecue scene of the mid 1970s, Jack and Delores, began cooking with Gourmet Hickory Wood and created the most extensive barbecue menu in the country. The latter melted in our mouths and the ribs and coleslaw were wonderful. Jack Fiorella, the eldest son, worked with his father until 1974 when he decided to branch off and start Fiorellas Jack Stack of Martin City. We both ordered ribs, and also their "mushroom stack". We noticed the country elegance of the tables and booths - and also how the other customers seemed to be relishing their food and having a good time. Things were bustling, but we were still seated within 10-15 minutes without a reservation. Once inside the restaurant, the impressively high brick walls with over-sized Americana collages grabbed our attention everywhere we looked. Whereas downtown KC was clean, beautiful and inviting. After you create your account, you'll be able to customize options and access all our 15,000 new posts/day with fewer ads. This was not exactly what we pictured, as some large-city "downtown" areas aren't well-renovated, and aren't in the safest-looking parts of town. Please register to participate in our discussions with 2 million other members - it's free and quick Some forums can only be seen by registered members. We were surprised first of all by how easy it was to find a parking space in the huge lot behind the restaurant then, by the lovely outdoor eating area and lovely building exterior in an old building previously-used by a railroad. 101 W 22nd St Ste 300, Freight House, Kansas City, MO 64108-1954. We had never been to KC before, and chose this restaurant, having decided to eat barbeque for dinner in the city that's famous for its BBQ sauces.

Bryce anderson salon1/20/2024 We all hope she comes back to Australia and Melbourne again very soon.Going into the 2022 football season, Aggies Wire will be looking at each scholarship player listed on the Texas A&M roster. As I said to the audience on the night (I was honoured with presenting Xuefei a gift from the Classical Guitar Society of Victoria), you would seriously be hard pressed to find a greater guitar talent in the world right now. And all played from memory, to boot! Just phenomenal. To round out the evening Fei left us with a cheeky little transcription of Plum Blossoms In The Snow (arranged by Gerald Garcia) from her latest recording, Sojourn. A delicious little “dessert” to finish the evening.Īn absolutely wonderful evening of classical guitar performance. A spell-binding performance again delivered with Fei’s trademark poise and grace. The end of the main programme featured Leo Brouwer’s Sonata para Guitarre Sola. Definitely not saving the easiest pieces till last! Brilliant. It takes a fair bit of talent to be able to do that! A fantastic arrangement, delivered as if it was intended to sit at home on the one instrument. What?! A glutton for punshiment surely in undertaking such an exercise (she admitted it was a pretty hard thing to do), but was well worth the effort. Fei decided apparently that she wanted to be able to play this tune without a duet partner, so took it upon herself to arrange it for solo guitar. This was of particular interest given that it’s normally played by two instruments, guitar and something else (another guitar or piano). Photo: Neil Muir (borrowed from Xuefei’s Facebook page)įei then presented us with her arrangement of Manuel de Falla’s Spanish Dance No. Xuefei waiting backstage, just a few moments before the start of the recital in Geelong. Head over to YouTube for a taste of what I mean. A pure demonstration of virtuosity in guitar playing and musicality. This was off the chain (to coin an Australian phrase). We were treated to Rodrigo’s Invocacion y danza. The next three pieces I’m not quite sure what to say about them to be honest. A fitting place to play such a piece, as he was inspired by the song of an Australian bird in writing this piece. This was followed by Song from a Bird by John Williams from his album of the same name. The second half of the programme featured a Chinese piece arranged by Fei, transcribed from the pipa or Chinese lute. Oh yes, and let’s not forget a beautiful sound too. This Chaconne was simply fantastic (there was even a moment where I thought a rather excitable audience member was going to start applauding about a quarter of a way into the epic piece!) – a demonstration of dexterity, left hand shenanigans and right hand wizardry. Bach’s Chaconne. The arrangement, again, was Fei’s own – a masterwork of masterworks, played by a master of the instrument. The first half of the evening was rounded out by a phenomenal (I’m going to run out of superlatives here!) interpretation of J.S. And quite possibly some of the most pianissimo pianissimos I’ve ever witnessed! A super light, relaxed and delicate right hand. The lyrical, sentimentality of these songs was treated in the most graceful and delicate manner by Fei – elegant, simple, sensitive. The Albeniz was followed by three Schubert songs (arranged by Merz) – Lob der Thranen, Aufenhalt and Standchen. As Fei announced, she’s a big Schubert fan and this was apparent from her playing. I particularly enjoyed the subtle Tango and the Zortico. Fei played the pieces with the requisite Spanish-inflected sentiment, yet balanced that with a delightfully delicate touch and elegant poise reminiscent of a classical ballet dancer. This selection, featured on her Rodrigo album , was a simply delightful start to the evening. She clearly demonstrated that she’s equally at home on the smaller, more informal salon-type stage as she is on the large concert hall stage.įei kicked off the proceedings with her own arrangements of five of the six movements from Isaac Albeniz’s Espana: Seis Hojas de Album suite (the Prelude, Tango, Malaguena, Capricho Catalan and Zortico). Myself and a lucky group of around 80 or so music and guitar fans cosied into the sumptuous surrounds of Sacred Heart College’s Chapel to witness Xuefei just completely own one of the most seriously impressive, big, fat, chunky solo programmes I’ve had the pleasure to see or hear. Hi Folks! Well, if you read my last blog post you’ll know that I was eagerly anticipating the Geelong solo concert of Chinese guitariste extraordinaire, Xuefei Yang, this week. |
